Many patients who experience chronic pain or digestive issues have some nutritional imbalance. At Derry Chiropractic we understand that in today’s society it is very difficult to eat properly and obtain the nutrients that our bodies need in order to thrive. A usual North American diet is sufficient to prevent overt vitamin deficiency diseases such as scurvy, pellagra, and beriberi. However, insufficient vitamin intake is apparently a cause of chronic diseases. Recent evidence has shown that suboptimal levels of vitamins, even well above those causing deficiency syndromes, are risk factors for chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and osteoporosis. A large proportion of the general population is apparently at increased risk for this reason.
Chiropractic care works best when coupled with proper nutrition. We offer our patients the option of purchasing vitamins and supplements to enhance their overall nutrition. Much of the food we eat is under-nourished because the soil in which our food is grown is depleted of essential nutrients. This is why vitamin D has been added to milk, and folate (folic acid) to cereal. This helps the general population obtain more vitamins and minerals that we need. However, with the trend in “eating on the go,” many people still do not obtain the proper levels.
